Non Running Car Removal

A car that won’t start can still be assessed for pickup. The first question is how it can be reached and moved. A vehicle with a dead battery on a level driveway is a different job from one with seized brakes in a low parkade. North Shore Instant Cash for Scrap Car can discuss your vehicle, the pickup spot and the arrangements needed to collect it. Call 236 760 4369 or request a quote.

What does “non running” mean for a pickup?

Some cars stopped running after a mechanical failure. Others have been parked for months and now have a flat battery, soft tires or brakes that are stuck. A car might start but have a transmission problem or collision damage that makes it unsafe to drive. When you call, describe the last time the car moved and what you know about its current condition.

You do not need a diagnosis to ask for a quote. It is enough to say, for example, “The shop says the transmission has failed. The car is in its outdoor lot and I have the keys.” If you are unsure whether it can roll or steer, say that. Leave the vehicle where it is if checking would involve moving it on a slope, working in traffic or forcing a damaged part.

01 / VEHICLE DETAILS

Keys and steering

Tell us whether the keys are available and who has them. If the steering is locked or the gear selector is stuck, describe what you already know. If someone has been trying to repair the vehicle, find out whether it was left partially dismantled and which parts are still in place.

02 / VEHICLE DETAILS

Wheels, tires and brakes

Mention flat or missing tires, damaged wheels and brakes that may have seized. If the car is sitting on stands or has parts stored next to it, explain that when you call. Share a photo from a safe spot if the vehicle’s position or wheel damage is hard to describe.

03 / VEHICLE DETAILS

Collision damage and leaks

Describe where the car was hit and whether any wheel, door or loose panel affects access. Mention leaks you can see from outside the vehicle. If the car was involved in an active insurance claim, check with the insurer before making removal arrangements. For a damaged electric or hybrid vehicle, identify it as such and ask the insurer or qualified responder about any special handling requirements that apply.

Explain how to get to the vehicle

Underground or covered parking

Find the posted entrance clearance and the parking level. Note whether the approach includes a narrow turn, a steep ramp, a gate or a second height restriction. Share the entrance location and explain who can provide access. Ask the building manager about any arrangements for vehicle removal and when they can be made.

A photo of the posted clearance and the area around the car is more useful than an estimate from memory. The fact that the car originally drove into a parkade only tells you it fit on the way in. Collection access also depends on the route, the car’s current condition and the setup needed for that specific pickup.

Steep driveway, narrow lane or gated lot

Describe where the car sits relative to the road, which way it faces and whether the driveway bends or slopes. Mention parked cars, construction, overhead obstructions and locked gates that affect the approach. If a neighbour or building manager controls part of the access, agree with them on a time before confirming a booking.

Repair shop or storage yard

Check who has the keys, who can authorize release and when the vehicle can leave. Ask the shop or lot about any charges or paperwork that need attention. Share the opening hours and the location of the entrance with the person arranging collection. If the facility has a contact who handles releases, have that information available when booking.

Make the pickup inquiry specific

A message such as “2009 sedan in a North Vancouver parkade, will not start, keys available, one flat rear tire, posted entrance clearance of 2 metres” gives more to work with than “I have a dead car.” Add the approximate location and describe any deadline. If your building is replacing garage gates or the shop needs the space by closing, say which date and time matter.

Ask what the quoted amount includes and whether any access restrictions could change the plan. Confirm payment arrangements and who will collect the car. If you discover new information about the wheels, keys, clearance or the actual location before the agreed time, share it so the pickup can be reassessed.

Frequently asked questions

Should I move the car into the street before pickup?

Discuss the access first. Share where the car is now and how it can be reached. If it has damaged steering, brakes or wheels, avoid attempting to move it yourself. Confirm where the pickup is planned before you make changes.

What if the car is missing a wheel or major part?

Describe which part is missing and how the car is supported or parked. Ask whether the vehicle can be collected in that condition and whether it changes the quote. A current photo can help clarify what you mean.

Can someone else meet the crew?

Ask before booking. Being available to open a gate differs from being authorized to sign a transfer or release the vehicle. See the BC paperwork checklist if the registered owner cannot be there.

What if I don’t have the keys?

Tell us before scheduling so the pickup can be assessed based on the vehicle’s current position and condition. Have your ownership details ready and check the paperwork requirements separately.
